12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/12/2017. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, golden raisin, plum, peach, pear, and red apple; with light notes of herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malts, fruitiness, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, golden raisin, plum, peach, pear, and red apple; with light notes of herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, golden raisin, plum, peach, pear, red apple, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying flavors after the finish. Nicely clean on lager flavors, not overly fruity/yeasty. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.9%. Overall this a very good doppelbock. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Nicely clean and rich dark/Munich malts; restrained fruity yeast, and mild earthy hops against sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example. Just a bit too fruity and not as rich on malts as I hoped.

2006 vintage on tap at MBGSF 2011. Pours a lightish brown with an off-white head. Distinct prune and molasses aroma. Similar flavor, molasses and raisin, slight hint of oxidation. Pretty nice vintage beer.

Nice dopplebock - easy to drink - nothing overly special that seperates it from other dopples. Overally pretty good beer

Hazy mahogany pour, with a faint ring of lace - up front, the nose is a little oxidized and tart, but underneath there are some fairly complex notes of cherry, raisin, fig, chocolate, and caramel - creamy, but slightly thin in body for the style - sweet at first, with chocolate and caramelized sugar - this makes way for some nutty character, followed by cherry and raisin fruitiness - starts to dry out in the finish, and oxidation is apparent, generating a kind of coppery quality that makes the experience less enjoyable - not bad, but not particularly good either.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of sliffy. Clear amber golden with a yellowish, beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, Danish rye and a slight acidity. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel, sweetish roasted malt and a little caramel. Rather subdued bitterness. Pleasant and highly drinkable. 190408

Bottled. An unclear amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of fruit - peaches being the strongest, but also spicy notes - especially of coriander. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of fresh fruit, hops, over ripe fruit, and alcohol, which in the latter part really makes its presence known, and leads to a bitter finish.

Blind tasting at Papsoes place, another great session, thanks Henrik! Beer #2: Pours hazy amber with a diminished white head. Aroma is fruity and barley. Initial flavour is light woody, caramel and with a light bitterness. Shows a light sweetness to the caramel malt following. Light fruity note swept in a light caramel malt base, light spice and acidic touch into the finish.

bottle - Pours dark amber with a thin head. The aroma is very malty with lots of caramel. The taste is also heavy caramel malts. There’s not too much else going on there, perhaps a little nuttiness, but those caramel malts really dominate. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated, this beer is a good quaff when you want something sweet, but lacks complexity.

Thanks to Ohiodad for this one. Dark amber in color, Blue Goat throws up an average-sized light brown head that falls quickly. Decent beer, but overall it lacks the big malty aroma and flavor that bocks (and especially Doppelbocks) need to have in my book.
