I don’t know what is "doppel" about this. It is a lighter bock. Hardly any aroma at all; just a hint of malt. The flavor is sweet and bocky; some caramel and more malt. No alcohol in the aroma or flavor of this light brown beer. Not bad, but very expensive for what it is.

Pours dark brown with a maroon tint around the edges. Thick tan head and nice lacing. Aroma of earthy malt and caramel. Medium-bodied with a toasted grain and malt flavor. Some nuts and dark fruit as well. The taste is pretty good but doesn’t have a lot of legs. Sweet, malty finish with a touch of hops, and again it falls off pretty quickly. Not really a bad Doppelbock but I was a little let down.

Deep copper body, thin-medium light tan head. Light aroma, cerealy and biscuity, with alcohol and brown sugar. Definite Munichy body, with strong cereals, toast, brown sugar, and touches of strawberry, lacking the heavier caramels, prune, and raisin associated with the best doppelbocks. Reminds me more of an altbier or the first incarnation of the same brewer’s Phi, which this replaces, but not as good as the latter. Lingering bitter, burnt bread finish, a wet, heavy mass of grass clippings and fall leaves on my tongue.
