Probably drinking this can a little late--May seems a long time ago for a hazed DIPA-er, "Extra American Ale". But, shit, it was on the new release singles shelf, so blame the distributor for clearing out their warehouse, not me. Anyway, very malty, with a heavy caramel base backed up by toasted bread and some grainy sweetness, with lemondrop and grapefruit and lime zest from the hops leading to a floral-mineral finish. Booze shows up on the fade, with a slight astringency hampering the otherwise creamy feel. Not bad, but I can't help but think four months ago this pint was a completely different beer.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 5/1/2018. Pours moderately hazy golden orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Lightly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is an awesome DIPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV with the modestly bitter/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Great Citra/Wakatu hop showcase. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy balanced hops complexity; nice bready malt backbone, not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, loved the hop profile as expected. Really well done DIPA for the big ABV.

Really boozy at the start, though as you consume the beverage, the citrus notes become very prominent, and a crisp finish. Get fucked up!!!!
