Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours clear opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with amazing retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts the whole glass. Thick soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, smoke, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, spicy rye, and toasted dark/brown bread/crusts; with lighter notes of charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toast/smokey earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/black/rye/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, smoke, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, spicy rye, and toasted dark/brown bread/crusts; with lighter notes of charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toast/smokey earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/woody hop, roast/char bitterness; and rye spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, smoke, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, spicy rye, toasted dark/brown bread/crusts, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/rye/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is a delicious American stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/rye/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink; despite the increasingly bitter/drying finish. Over carbonated, but it was not an issue for drinkability at all. Really rich for the ABV, with well balanced dark/black/rye/bready malt complexity, and nice earthy hop presence. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Nitro 12 ounce bottle. Black, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt. The taste is rye, roasted malt, cherry, chocolate. Medium bodied, well balanced, straightforward. Well executed. These guys deserve to be in "best brewery in the state" discussions.

Tap rating must be backlogged. 12oz bottle. Attractive looking brown black body, Big, steady, rusty beige head..creamy. Mellow dry cocoa in the aroma. The rye gives it more depth I suppose, but not any solid direction, sort of leaning it into brown ale, with chewy amber-maple feel, though the base is certainly more of a classic Stout. Quite easy drinking for the ABV. A quality beverage, rye just isn’t my thing I suppose.

Tap, nitro of course. Pours clear mahogany, medium creamy tan head, as expected. Aroma is richly roasty, hints of coffee, cocoa, ash. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, rich and roasty, hint of lactose, coffee, dark breads. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Very nice job. Rye not really coming out though.

Nitro at Stanley’s. Pours black with a thick creamy grayish brown head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has a good amount of rye and bitter dark grains with a good amount of roasted malts. Flavor has roasted malts and rye supported by a dark grain and bitter chocolate backbone.
