Like a headlight on a northbound train, The Train I Ride shines bright through sleet, snow, and the interstellar mists. We’ve traveled far and gathered great finds, but this here Train still has miles to go before we sleep. This Triple IPA was brewed in celebration of our 8th anniversary, and packs a wallop of hoppy delight. Using Columbus, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops, The Train I Ride fills a glass with overwhelming hop aroma and a salacious hop-forward body featuring pine and citrus notes and a complex and earthy mouthfeel.

Super crystal clear golden and lightly coppered coloured body with a nice two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright resinous, grassy, grapefruity and especially tropical fruited hop bitterness with a good dose of sweetness as well along with a touch of alcohol and syrup noticeable at the end. Medium-bodied; Assertive hop flavours at first with a big dose of alcohol and grain at first along with some noticeable pine and grassy hop cone flavours along with quite a bit of alcohol and deep robust hop bitterness that shows a light bit of fruit sweetness on the finish. Aftertaste shows some fruits, a bit of citrus, a lot of alcohol and grain and even more hops - all with some good metallic twangs near the end. Overall, a nice Imperial IPA that shows a lot of pungency and bitterness with a good deal of flavours, but a bit one-sided and not too complex, yet showing a lot of alcohol and pungency. Nice to sample and a decent beer, but a bit too pungent and bitter with slightly too much alcohol, especially for a large format bottle. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Hy-Vee Grocery Store in Omaha (5150 Center), Nebraska a few hours ago on 05-February-2018 for US$7,99 sampled a few hours later in my hotel room here in Omaha, Nebraska on 05-February-2018.

Chalumeaux with this 22 oz. bottle. Clear yellow appearance, thin bubbly head. Mild tropical fruit, light floral hops. Mild malt. In the flavor the malt is very forward, bitterness is in the form of floral hops. Just ok for me.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/11/2017. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden honey/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, passionfruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, grapefruit, lemon, citrus zest, light pepper/pine, honey, lightly toasted bread dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, passionfruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, grapefruit, lemon, citrus zest, light pepper/pine, honey, lightly toasted bread dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, passionfruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, grapefruit, lemon, citrus peel, light pepper/pine, honey, lightly toasted bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/sticky, and slightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 11%. Overall this is a fantastic huge DIPA. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and pale malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Galaxy, Mosaic, and Columbus hops; love the hop profile as expected. Perfectly balanced juicy and dank hop complexity; nice malty backbone, but never overly sweet/heavy feeling for the ABV. Never overly aggressive, making this drink really smoothly. A highly enjoyable offering.
