What's going to happen when Stumke comes to town? That's always the question for one of beer's biggest rock stars or maybe he's hip hop, I'm not sure. Whatever it is it's always about more than the beer with this collaboration with Stillwater Artisanal. So this hoppy guava lager is going to be good to drink but that's not all. The can is a word find so you can interact with Strumke and I without the lingering side effects.

16oz can. Faint haze, orange-tan body. Guava is mild, restrained. Pretty straightforward IPL, clean, streamlined, well executed. Good.

This beer is a slightly hazy straw-gold color with a medium white head that burns away gradually to an outer ring. Stringy lace. Fruity and floral hoppy aroma. Medium body with flavors of citrus, yeast, floral hops and malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Can. Pours a clear light yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice grass and citrus hop bite with a bit of guava and light grains underlying. Flavor has a nice combination of guava and grass with a touch of citrus and a bit of sweetness backing.

Pounder can. Taste is initial crisp cutting co2 laced with a nearly tart beer. Hazy pale it settles into a mildly fruity IPA after each swig. Yes, decent beginning with the evolution of mildly tart fizzy into fresh IPA. Must be that quava that hangs in there thru the session. Bitter IPA finish. Just another ubiquitous IPA masquerading as some kind ah lager. BTW, never heard of pine guava before.

Sample at Trail's end. Pours a clear, bright yellow color, with a huge, frothy, white head. Mellow aromas of white bread, dry grass, rosemary, and some pine. Sweet, with a mellow bitterness. Light and effervescent, with a crisp, clean finish. This is a very light, mellow lager.

Pounder: Slightly briney pecan and hay nose. Shimmering amber, medium head. Savory pecan. Mild grass finish. No trace of fruit, not super hoppy either. Medium body, easy carbonation.

16 ounce can into lager glass, best before 11/1/2018. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of juicy guava, lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, citrus peel, light pepper/pine, cracker, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity hops, guava, and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of juicy guava, lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, citrus peel, light pepper, pine, cracker, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of guava, lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, citrus peel, pepper, pine, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, guava, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness and carbonation. Very clean on lager flavors, with zero yeasty notes present. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a very good hoppy fruit pale lager. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, guava, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and pretty refreshing to drink; with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Not quite IPL, not quite fruit beer; somewhere in between. Very well balanced between hops and guava; nice clean bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness. A very enjoyable and pretty unique offering.

Whole Foods, Gowanus cans: pours gold with a white head. Aroma is light guava, some maltiness, light lemon. Taste is slightly fruity, kind of dry and a bit sweet. Not bad but not too impressive.
