Junction Road store. Aromas are somewhat mild funky barnyard with hints of cantaloupe and salt. Flavors are similar to nose, mildly tart and dry, without much of the qualities listed on the label. Okay body and carbonation.

Batch 3 is 3.8%. A green magnum. Slightly rosy clear amber with a white head that fades to a fat coat. 3+ Aroma of ginger snaps, seasoned firewood. Light bodied. Nicely judged medium low carbonation makes it swiggable but cleansing. Salty. Herbal funk, biscuity malt, mandarin peel. Slightly sour. Dryish finish with gentle citrus-tinged bitterness and a little wood lurking underneath. Stylish.
From backlog. Taster from Magnum bottle at bottleshare, Escondido, Ca. Cloudy dark golden with white head. Malts, yeast, sour, oak, hay.

Magnum into smaller Troubadour glass. Pours with barely a head, looks a boy undercarbed. Aroma is soft with orange marmalade corkiness, a soft biscuit muffin maltiness, light bretty and earthy musk. A little undercarbed. Some tart orange with livelier tart and wild finish. Soft because of the lower carbonation. Definitely not overly acidic so I like that. A little more dork that makes it taste a bit old. Maybe wood and light oak but may just be an ages cork flavor. I like it and magnum for NYE works great.

5900th review! 1.5L magnum bottle into tulip glass; batch #1, bottled on 11/2/2016. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lightly tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, red/green apple, mango, melon, citrus peel, peppercorn, dill, anise, ginger salt, white wine, oak, hay, straw, herbal, grass, wheat, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, yeast earthiness, and slight white vinegar. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy/light acidic yeast, cantaloupe, spices, citrus/earthy hops, oak, and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, red/green apple, mango, melon, citrus peel, peppercorn, dill, anise, ginger salt, white wine, oak, hay, straw, herbal, grass, wheat, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, yeast earthiness, and slight white vinegar. Light-moderate lactic tartness, fruit tang, peppery yeast/oak spiciness, and herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, red/green apple, mango, melon, citrus peel, peppercorn, dill, anise, ginger salt, white wine, oak, hay, straw, herbal, grass, wheat, white bread, leathery/musty funk, light vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/light acidic yeast, cantaloupe, spices, citrus/earthy hops, oak, and pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/bitter/spiciness balance; and zero astringent hop/spice flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tart/bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, fairly crisp, and lightly acidic/tangy/tannic balance mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is an awesome fruit/spiced wild saison! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/light acidic yeast, cantaloupe, spices, citrus/earthy hops, oak, and pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modestly tart/bitter/spicy/drying finish. Really awesome classic JK house funky Brett/saison yeast complexity; great balance of cantaloupe, spices, and Sorachi ace hops; with a nice solid malt backbone for the low ABV. The large format size was extremely easy to finish solo. Never overly tart, bitter, or spicy in any way. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
