Double IPA Brewed with Blood Orange and Guava

Cat’s Pajamas is a Double IPA brewed with blood orange and guava. This India Pale Ale is pale orange in color with big aromas of sweet, tropical fruit. Cat’s Pajamas is balanced with flavors of sweet fruit and bitter hops and has a resinous, mouth coating feel. High in ABV, this beer finishes dry with a bit of warmth.

I don't know what it is that Short’s does with blood orange and guava in their beers but I have liked every one I have tried. The combination here nicely complements the bitterness that I like in high ABV IPA’s. Another great IPA from Short’s!

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/8/2017. Pours slightly hazy pale orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big blood orange, guava, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon, orange peel, light pepper/pine, light caramel, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, blood orange, guava, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge blood orange, guava, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon, orange peel, light pepper/pine, light caramel, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/citrus rind/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of blood orange, guava, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, blood orange, guava, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop/fruit flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Slightly warming alcohol for 9%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, blood orange, guava, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV; and despite the increasingly bitter/drying finish. Very bright/dank hops and balanced juicy fruit flavors; nice malty backbone without feeling sweet or heavy. A highly enjoyable offering.
