2022 vintage, 16% ABV. Quite the behemoth, but lacking the viscosity you’d expect in an imperial stout this big. Boozy as hell, though. Very bitter, as if it spent a little too longin those rye barrels, plus with generous RIS hopping and rye spiciness. Never reaches the chocolate-anise-soy depths you want in a giant stout. Mainly booze and bitterness. Interesting to see a beer this big from Harpoon, but they do imperial stouts about as good as they do anything else.

Bomber at share fat by Eric. This is a big booze bomb, and it 18%, quite expected. Malty and full with an nice texture. Alcohol warmth plays a huge role in this, although it doesn't obscure the other fine qualities of this beer. Edgd for a bit as well, and it's held up quite well.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 9/2016. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big nutty dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, smoke, wood, pepper, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, charcoal, soy sauce, raisin, cherry, vanilla, caramel, and roast/toast/smoky earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Minimal booziness as it warms as well. Taste of big nutty dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, smoke, wood, pepper, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, charcoal, soy sauce, raisin, cherry, vanilla, caramel, and roast/toast/smoky earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char and woody/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of nutty coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, smoke, wood, pepper, charcoal, toasted dark bread, light molasses/licorice/dark fruit, and roast/toast/smoky earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from roast/char/hop bitterness and spicy alcohol, increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a smooth, creamy/slick, sticky/chalky, and slightly syrupy/resiny balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden; a large warmth and not too much booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very nice massive imperial coffee stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on slowly for the huge ABV. A very intense and unique beer. Tons of coffee presence with balanced malts and earthy hops. Quite drying from the alcohol and bitterness, but had a lot of nice underlying complexities I really enjoyed.

Pours black from a bottle. Kind of sits like a glass of midnight, waiting... And while you’re waiting, how bout a cup of coffee? Jesus that’s strong. Not strong-tasting, but damn that’s a jolt. Burns on the way down. How’s this night going to end up? Either sipping a cup of strong coffee, or sitting around at midnight, waiting...

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet licorice and espresso aromas. Sharp with dark espresso, soy and licorice upfront turning to slightly sour pumpernickel in the hot, lasting finish.

Sample at Bob’s Bar. Brownish-black color with a medium foamy tan head that recedes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing. Coffee, malt and dark chocolate aromas. Full-bodied with flavors of espresso, roasted malt and fudge. The finish is boozy with a roasted coffee and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
