12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 3/30/2016. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, herbal, light smoke/char, slight dark fruit, and char/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt and cocoa/coffee notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, herbal, light smoke/char, slight dark fruit, and char/roasted earthiness. Good amount of roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, smoke, char, and char/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roasted malt and cocoa/coffee flavors; with a nice roasted bitter/sweet balance and minimal astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from roast/char bitterness, that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice coffee stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of roasted malt and cocoa/coffee flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, even with the strong bitterness. A very enjoyable offering.
