Hold on to your taste buds and make sure you have a designated driver! This mouth-exploding double IPA starts with the unique citrus aroma provided by a 100% Simcoe dry hop. The high bitterness is slight toned down by the caramel sweetness imparted by the large quantities of malted barley needed to achieve such a high ABV.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 1/18/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon/orange rind, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance. Moderate dryness that increases through the glass, along with the bitterness. Very well balanced at first, but gets aggressive on bitterness and slightly astringent towards the end of the glass; but not too bad. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and fairly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and extremely smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

On tap at MBGSF 2013. Pours a clear amber with an off-white head. An orange/grapefruit citrus aroma with pine. Flavor has grapefruit and orange, herbal, and pine hops. A bit harsh.

Growler thanks to Marty! Pours a clear gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has notes of earthy pine with backing onion as well as a hint of earthy grain. Flavor starts with earthy pine and a grain backing with a bit of pine and onion.
