"A cookie in every bottle.”

Shipyard GingerBreadHead Ale is like a spicy, rich, gingerbread cookie you can drink. The warm flavors of molasses and brown sugar are accented with ginger, cloves, and cinnamon.

Bottle. DeScription is exactly what it is, a gingerbread in a bottle. Dark gold in color with a small head. Aroma and taste is like gingerbread, sweet and spicy.

Not one of my favorite Shipyards to be honest.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 6/23/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/brownish color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, cinnamon, ginger, clove, nutmeg, light roast, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, spice, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, cinnamon, ginger, clove, nutmeg, light roast, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, cinnamon, ginger, clove, nutmeg, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness, balance, and complexity of dark/bready malt, spice, and earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and lightly creamy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.6%. Overall this is a good spiced brown ale style. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt, spices, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Sampled on draft at Dad’s Pub this beer poured an orange-brown color with a medium sized foamy white head that left no lacing. The aroma was strong ginger snap. The flavor was strong ginger snap with a mild bitterness and noted molasses. Very long ginger snap finish. Medium body. One dimensional but tasty.

Bottle: Clear, dark copper with a small, but tight, beige head. Nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger aroma. Taste is cola, spice, ginger. I really figured this would be a ridiculous gingerbread bomb, but it’s not.....fairly well reined-in......it’s still a bit much, but better than I thought it would be. Ok..for a single bottle, but not much more.

12 oz bottle at a BBQ, 8/8/2015
I was a little bit worried that Shipyard would hit this style too sweet, but I thought they did pretty well. Good gingerbread flavor with spice, some cookie, and a bit of hop bitterness to keep it from getting cloying.

Bottle from Harvest Market, Bedford NH. Aroma is of gingerbread and allspice. Appearance is beautiful clear, dark amber brown, with 1 finger-width creamy beige head with nice lacing and attractive sparkle. Taste is heavy sweet gingerbread. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with creamy texture, fairly flat carbonation until mild zing toward the finish, which is long and moderately sweet. Overall, if you’re looking for a sweet, dessert beer, this delivers what you’d expect it to deliver. It is a little bit sweet for me and that’s saying something as sweet is kind of my thing. A bit too much.

Tap. Pours clear hazel, medium tan head, good residual and lacing. Aroma is yep, basically a gingerbread cookie. Pretty much nailed that. Flavor is less sweet than expected, not much bitterness, gingerbread, root beer, molasses, cinnamon, clove on the finish. Medium body, a touch watery.
