Somewhat sweet, with some individual spices in the nose. Taste is sugary, but resolves to a note of honey or molasses. A bit of root beer "extract" at first, then sassafras or other bark in the background. Lesser burn in the aftertaste. Some marshmallow resolves in the aftertaste.

Aroma is standard root beer with a hint of putrid garbage. Flavor is like nose. Body is a touch thin. A little alcohol warmth. One and done.

Can. Sweet root beer / sassafras aroma. Brown with a large, quickly dissipating beige head. Syrupy sweet root beer and bitter roasty flavor. Medium sticky body, moderate carbonation. Sweet sticky mess .. not my thing. I suspect these hard root beers will be a passing fad.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 7/22/2015. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a small fairly dense off white head with poor retention, that reduces to a ring of lace that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, licorice, vanilla, cola, wood, mint, toast, biscuit, and herbal/spice earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and herbal spice notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, licorice, vanilla, cola, wood, mint, toast, biscuit, and herbal/spice earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/woody bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, licorice, vanilla, cola, wood, mint, toast, biscuit, and herbal/spice earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt and herbal spice flavors; with a good bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth and fairly slick/syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent root beer spiced ale style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and herbal spice flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
