American India Pale Ale
A copper colored strong pale ale brewed exclusively for Trattoria Stella, located in the Village Commons, Traverse City, MI. Sumptuous aromas of sharp citrus blend with toasted caramel malt fragrance. It is a medium bodied, well balanced ale that overflows with snappy grapefruit flavors, a playful spiciness and the perfect bitterness for maximum delight.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 11/10/2014. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt balance; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt balance; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is an damn nice IPA style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft at Short’s. Hazy medium orange body, thin off-white ring of carbonation. Nose of sugared citrus (grapefruit) rind. Catty, citrus rind body with emphasis on bitter grapefruit peel and next to no sweetness, backed by dry biscuity malts that take a back seat. Firm, dry, and punchy.

Served on draft at the Michigan Summer Beerfest, 2010, as part of RBSG festivities. Pours a clear amber color with a thin head. Hoppy aroma with notes of peach, citrus and caramel. Very nice. The taste is bitter hops with minty and herbal notes. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Rerate from a 12 oz bottle. Pours a golden orange with fine particles. Spicy hop aroma, pine, citrus, with a little bit of a toasty sesame note that’s really nice. More citrusy hop flavor, though still a lot of spicy and pine hops as well, some grassier hops, and again a hint of toastiness that reads similar to sesame for me. I quite like it this time around. Despite there being no actual sesame seeds here, it makes me wonder what sesame beers are out there.
Original review - On tap at MBGSF 2010. Pours orange amber with a white head. Hoppy aroma with citrus, floral, and piney hops. Flavor is strong on the citrus hops with a medium bitterness. A nice APA, but doesn’t really have the level of hops for an IPA. (7/4/7/3/13/3.4)

On tap. Poured a clear gold with a white head that quickly dissipated to the edge and laced beautifully. Aroma had nice pine notes with a bit of underlying caramel. Flavor began sweet with grain and a bit of caramel as the pine hops built towards the finish.
