Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that sat atop of the glass and slid off decently. Some messy lace.
The aroma had some dark chocolate roasted nibs, some tobacco, light floral tones, some orange rind, black pepper, earthiness and toast.
The flavor moderately blended the roast to the spice to the bitter and the sweet through those floral tones.
The feel was medium bodied with a sturdy sipping quality about it. Good carbonation and a nice ABV to it. Moderate roasty grind, but not too harsh.
Overall, pretty good black IPA that I could come back to.

12 ounce bottle into tulip, bottled on 3/15/2014. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, floral, grass, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of deep roasted malt and citrus/pine hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, floral, grass, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, light char, floral, grass, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of citrus/pine hops and big roasted malt flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice double Black IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and big roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz bottle, and this happens to be #850 for me. Pours a deep hazed amber with an orangey off-white head. Slightly sweet citrusy, pine hops with caramel on top of biscuit aromas. Flavor is a general mix of pine, citrus, and biscuit. It’s not bad, but not quite the punch I’d hope for.
