12 ounce can. Hazy amber, large foamy offwhite head, good retention. Aroma of toffee, berries, dark fruits, toast. Taste is toasted malt, toffee, caramel, berries, vanilla. Medium bodied. You bet I’m watching the DPS clip right now. Okay, off to read poetry.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head along with some lighter white-ish lace on the side of the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, oats, grain, alcohol, pit fruits, earth and a big dose of caramel - very nice and super sweet smelling! Medium to Slightly Full-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours at first with a big dose of grain along with some caramelised sugars and an oaty and very mineral-y like flavour along with some lactose and milk/cream. Aftertaste shows some oats, caramelised sugars, grain, earth and a lot of pitted fruits coupled with some light herbs and a touch of figs coupled with the grain and very oaty/earthy flavours. Overall, a nice and relatively muted earthy, malty beer with some nice sugars and not any real pungency throughout - pretty nice, and the time in the bottle did it well! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Seaway Party Store in Grand Haven, Michigan on 09-September-2015 for US$9,79 sampled at home in Pungoteague/Onancock, Virginia (Eastern Shore) on 28-May-2017.

Thanks Brett.
This was poured into a thistle.
The appearance was a hazy copper color with a finger’s worth of creamy colored head. Mild dissipation and some stringy lace.
The aroma had some raisin sweetness and then a light toffee and caramel pulling through with a light woody to smoky peatiness.
The flavor lends a hand to big malty notes, caramel/toffee/bready. Smokiness is super light. Smooth maltiness clinging on into the aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a great sessionability about it. Barely any carbonation. ABV felt exactly as it should.
Overall, nicely done scotch ale by Blackrocks, definitely worthy of having again.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours fairly crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, raisin, plum, biscuit, light nuttiness, light chocolate, light smoke, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malts and moderate fruity/earthy yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, brown bread, toffee, raisin, plum, light chocolate, light nuttiness, light smoke, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, raisin, plum, light chocolate, light nuttiness, light smoke, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth and fairly slick/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice scotch ale style. All around good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
