Our Winter Seasonal lager was designed and brewed to make your winter months a little warmer, and brighter, rather than match a particular style of beer. Pastoral is hearty and rich without being sweet or chewy. This one-of-a-kind lager has a cornucopia of layered malt flavors, and a gorgeous burnt-amber color.

The perfect companion while enjoying a roaring fire, as blanket of snow sets on the world outside.

We start with hearty Pale Ale malt then we add Special Roast barley from Wisconsin, Dark Munich malt, Wheat malt for some added character. We top that off with a blend of dark, rich, caramel malts. The result is a smooth and silky lager beer, with soft toffee flavors, light bread crust, a little warming alcohol, and a clean finish…the perfect beer for sharing with family and friends, while you wait out our beautiful, Michigan winter.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber with a copper hue and an off white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has lots of light grains and a bit of sweetness with a good amount of bread supporting. Flavor has light sweet grains and bread with a touch of straw in the finish.

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a deep copper color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a mild pace. Some stringy lace.
The aroma had some caramel malts, nuts, dark fruits, dark bread, light cocoa powder with some grassy and earthy hops.
The flavor matched the aroma fairly nice blending the sweet to the hops nicely. Light aftertaste of the dark bread and malts. Same in the finish.
The feel was roughly medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation. ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, pretty nice bock that I’d have again.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy deep reddish copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, raisin, pear, apple, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, earthy hop, and moderate yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, pear, apple, herbal, floral, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, pear, apple, herbal, floral, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of malt, earthy hop, and moderate yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately crisp, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice Munich dunkel style. Good balance and robustness of malt, earthy hop, and moderate yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
