Sample at Kurtkeller 011: Crooked Stave-tastic 01 on 05/02/2014. Pours a cloudy bronze color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, hops and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of tropical fruit, herbal yeast, earthy malt and hops. The finish is resiny hops up front with a slight rye and yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, pineapple, peach, orange zest, lemon zest, grapefruit, pear, floral, grass, spicy rye, pepper, clove, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big tangerine, pineapple, orange zest, lemon zest, pear, floral, grass, spicy rye, light honey, light pine, pepper, clove, herbal, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of earthy floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, pineapple, orange zest, lemon zest, pear, floral, grass, spicy rye, light honey, pepper, herbal, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice compexity and balance of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; with a moderately crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth, crisp, and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian rye IPA. All around great complexity and balance of bright hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
