The newest addition to the sour series is richly complex and reminiscent of brandy-soaked dark fruits, toasted nuts, and a sweet balsamic reduction. Framboozled features a hint of barnyard funk from extended barrel aging in the presence of friendly microbes.

This amazing brew is a year in the making. We start with our slightly boozy 7.25% Strawberry Blonde, brewed with orange peel, coriander, and strawberries. Then we age it in gueuze-inoculated oak barrels for at least nine months, finally re-fermenting it with whole raspberries before bottle-conditioning.

Framboozled’s dark and brooding flavor profile pairs like an earthy Bordeaux, a spicy Red Zinfandel, or a Cabernet Sauvignon. Think big juicy steak, roast duck, sharp hard cheese, or rich dark chocolate.

Bottle thanks to Rob. Pours a cloudy copper with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is plastic, strawberry, cherry, citrus. Slick body, strawberry lemonade, light acidity, nice sourness, very good.

On tap at MBGSF 2014. Pours an orange amber. Raspberry and Sweet Tarts (the candy) aroma. Flavor gives even more Sweet Tarts, some tart berries: raspberry, strawberry, and eventually cherry. I should note the Sweet Tarts isn’t a knock against it: this is actually really good.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2012 vintage. Pours lightly hazy reddish orange color with a small dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big tart raspberry, raspberry skin, strawberry, oak, clove, pepper, hay, grass, straw, funk, red wine, vinegar, light leather, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruit, yeast, and oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart raspberry, strawberry, oak, clove, hay, grass, straw, pepper, red wine, vinegar, funk, light leather, and yeast earthiness. Large amount of acidic sourness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart raspberry, strawberry, oak, clove, pepper, hay, straw, grass, red wine, vinegar, funk, light leather, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of tart fruit, oak, and yeast flavors; with a good balance of malt/acidity and minimal cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick, moderately syrupy, and very acidic mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited sour ale. All around great complexity and balance of fruit, yeast ester, and oak barrel flavors; and quite smooth to sip on despite sizable acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle thanks to Sean! Pours a cloudy reddish amber with a tan head that starts at the edges and dissipates completely. Aroma has a nice note of sour raspberry with some acid and a hint of light strawberry underlying. Flavor has an acidic note up front that mellows to tart raspberries and light strawberries.

Bottle thanks to GRG1313. Pours with a hazed amber body with minimal head. Aromas are floral and fruity, honey suckle, wine and raspberry. A bit of plum and vinegar as well. Flavors are a bit odd. Air freshener and potpourri. Raspberry, tannin and grape skins. Oddly spicy. Lively bubbles and dry. Good.

Sample courtesy of JaBier. The beer pours a murky purple-brown color with a thin off-white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of tart fruit and touches of funk and wood. Medium body with a tart berry flavor. Raspberries are prevalent and any strawberry is hard to detect for me. Some brett notes too. The finish is somewhat dry with a raspberry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
