Sample at the brewpub. Flat black color with a medium thick light brown head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of smoked malt, vanilla and coffee. Medium body with flavors of charred malt, chocolate, coffee and a bit of hops. The finish is smokey with a malty aftertaste. Above average overall.

Shared bomber, pint glass. Dark black-brown, light cocoa head. Smooth, slightly creamy palate; really covers the 9.2 ABV. Roasted malt, a bit of chocolate & coffee.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, char, toast, smoke, toffee, dark bread, light vanilla, light floral, and roasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, char, coffee, smoke, toast, toffee, dark bread, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Sizable roasted/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, char, coffee, smoke, toast, dark bread, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance and minimal cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a pretty good imperial stout. Good complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; but very a very slow sipper due to intense roasted/charred malt/bitterness. A fairly enjoyable offering, best enjoyed very slowly.

On tap at the brewery. Pours black with a light tan head. Roasty coffee aroma with cocoa. Flavor again roasted coffee, cocoa, somewhat of a brown sugar note. Solid imperial stout, but it doesn’t really stand out.
