The music of The Steel Wheels and the beer from Blue Mountain are both original and handcrafted, with inspired Americana flavors from the heart of Virginia. Our collaboration E.S.B. draws from the past with British crystal malts and Scottish yeast, but uses American hops to put our own stamp on the creation. Like this beer, The Steel Wheels draw you in from the first sip...not because their music is loud or in your face, but because it’s surprising and original, and because its inspirations - a story, a character, a memory - have been brewed with just the right ingredients. Take time to drink slowly and listen truly. Wherever you are, get ready to sing along, to harmonize. Maybe even get up and dance.

Hear The Steel Wheels at www.thesteelwheels.com, or meet them soon at a show to hear the music as they love to share it: live, kickin’ and real.

Good. Sweet but the bitterness comes through strong. The deliciousness doesn't last too long though.

Can. A more or less clear one, dark amber in color and with a small, beige head. The aroma is rather sourish caramel malty, with dried fruits and some rye bready hints. Quite malty, almost wort like flavor too, with raisins, some plums, bread and caramel. It’s smooth on the palate, medium bodied and semi-sweet. Lasting finish. Not my favorite in any way. Not that it’s really bad in any way, I just don’t like the way it’s brewed. Sort of like a session-quad, which doesn’t work out very nice. 150625

Pours slightly hazy brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, bread, wort and grains. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long caramel, bread and grainy finish. Body is light to medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Deep rich brown coloured body with hints of violet and ruby and a thick, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, malt, toffee and nuts - pungent. Medium-bodied; Strong rich malt body with some alcohol and earthy notes coupled with a nice bit of sugars and some light complexity near the end. Aftertaste shows some assertive maltiness with a little hop flavour and a lot of sweetness from caramel and toffee - nice. Overall, a nice and relatively pungent ESB with more a dark and deep flavour than most from this style. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 01-November-2014 for US$1,99 sampled in my hotel room here in New York, New York on 07-November-2014.

12 ounce can. Copper color with a big foamy beige head. Caramel malt nose. A hint of brown sugar, as well. Sweet toasted malt flavor is smooth and nutty. More brown sugar and spicy hops. Some dried fruit in mid taste. Alcohol is well hidden. Finish is cloying and sticky malt.

Can: Tea and bread crust nose. Dark copper, thick yellow head, good lacing. Bread crust flavor finishing with a wisp of smoke. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nicely done. I’ve had this before but never remembered to rate it. It gets better every time I’ve tried it.

Pretty good showing for style. Pours orangish brown with good head and lacing. Good balance, nice crisp malt. Good mix overall of elements. Tap at RFD in Chinatown.
