12 ounce bottle. Dark reddish brown color with a big rocky beige head. Earthy roasted malt aroma. Tasty roasted malt flavor has notes of caramel, dark bread and dark cherries. Complex and spicy with a creamy mouthfeel and full body. Finish is slightly dry and has notes of dark chocolate. Tasty.

On tap. Pours a clear deep amber with a light brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has lots of bread with a bit of sweetness and light spice. Flavor has bread, toffee and sweet grains with a bit of spice underlying.

Bottle. Pours clear rich chestnut, medium creamy tan head, dissipates slowly, good lacing. Aroma is malty and nutty, dark breads and a bit of smoke. Flavor is similar, medium sweet, light bitter, a bit smoky, nutty, pumpernickel, molasses, touch of orange zest. Medium body, low acidity and a bit creamy in the mouth. Solid beer.
Bad smell, though pretty decent for how old it is.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 3/19/2013. Pours moderately cloudy reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, light roast, brown bread, light raisin, light floral, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark and nutty malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, chocolate, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, brown bread, light roast, light floral, and toasted earthiness. Light earthy spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, chocolate, brown bread, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark and nutty malt notes; with very nice robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice winter warmer style. All around nice balance and robustness of dark/nutty malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. Really enjoyed this one.

Dark Brown, Good Head, Lots of Lacing. Roasted and Bitter Taste although it does not last for long. A little thinner than expected. Decent.

Pours a dark, copper-red, with little in the way of head (and what there is, quickly dissipates). Aroma of malt and grain. Flavor is just a touch on the sweet side, a bit nutty, with some sort of muted spice in the background (can’t quite pin it down, though). Not bad.
