On tap at Hopcat A2. Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has bright pine and a bit of grass with some raisin and grain supporting. Flavor has pine and citrus rind with some wet grass and a hint of raisin underlying.

Draft. Poured a bit lighter than I expected - a cloudy amber color, with a small off-white head, expected something a bit darker based on the raisins, but hey - whatever. Aroma was sweet, slight grape/raisin. Alcohol was pretty subtle compared to the listed abv.

Bottle via a trade. Pours with a deep golden-copper hued body with a medium sized off-white head. Aromas are floral, citrus, dank, quite boozy, marmalade, medium sweet, dates, pungent, some caramel, medium-deep dark fruit notes. Flavors are grainy, wheat perhaps, malt forward, caramel, sharp caramelized fruit notes, raisins, quite bitter, mild metallic, lightly acidic. Floral hops. Lingering bitterness. Thin, warming, astringent, medium fizzy, dry and a bit of fusel. While not horrific or entirely undrinkable, this wasn’t a very pleasant drinking experience.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottle 2/2/2012. Pours slightly hazy orange amber color with a nice 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with great retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some nice spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, orange, grapefruit, biscuit, pineapple, grape, herbal, floral, earth, and a touch of alcohol. Interesting and unique aromas; very pungent hoppiness is present as well. Taste of grapefruit, raisin, herbal hops, earth, grape, biscuit, caramel, pine, and peppery spiciness. Good amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, herbal, pepper, and earth on the finish for a while. Great malt balance with the bitterness make this very enjoyable. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and fairly sticky mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden at 9% with hardly any warming present. Quite smooth to drink, but is still definitely a sipper. Overall a very nice experimental DIPA from Short’s. Very enjoyable to sip on, and it definitely grew on me the more I got into the glass. Very unique and balanced.

12 oz bottle. Pours amber with a yellowy off-white head. Odd aroma with resiny floral suggestions, but kind of weird. There’s not a good way to describe it. Anyway, flavor has floral, resinous hops, dark fruit tones, lots of earthy, nutty, toasted flavors. It’s pretty good, but still a little strange.

6th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Hazy coppery body, medium creamy head. Smells and tastes like funky, skunk weed hops, backed by sweet, toasty malts. Hops-forward, intense, and pretty good.
