Imperial Malt Liquor Aged in Bourbon Barrels
Too Classy for a Paper Bag. Here you have what could be the first malt liquor worthy of a glass. Typically a slighted style, we thought we would class it up with a stay in the wood and a healthy dose of dry-hopping. A huge hit of corn gives this one a smooth sweetness while its time spent aging in bourbon barrels will give you reason to share. Be warned: this one will kick you where you most expect it.

Bottle in to a pint glass. clear light amber thin wispy off white head that hangs around. Smooth sweetness is right. A full rich slick malt body. A touch of the barrel aging is nice and he slow subdued burn of the ABV. Very easy drinking for 14%+

Sampler a liquor store in Cincinnati. Smells strong but not particularly a bad for a malt liquor. Aroma has a big kick on the nose but not very corny. Flavor is harder on the edges but pretty soft for A supposed imperial malt likka. Some hop bitterness and a malt dryness. Really not a malt liquor. Bourbon is lost in this beer and the general alcohol. Should be considered a doable ASA rather than malt likka. Decent bitterness at the end.

Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear, deep gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Corn forward nose with brown sugar, vanilla and alcohol on the nose. Toasted caramel, molasses & booze on the palate. Hot, thin and sweet on the palate. With lingering alcohol heat on the finish. It's fun, but diabetes is real though. Glad I only bought a single, but Founders made the malt liquor they set out to make I guess.

On tap at Conservatory. Pours a clear copper gold with small white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is rye, wood, hairspray. Medium body, bread, caramel, corn, boozy, good.

Meh. The bourbon element was nice, in the sense that it tasted accurately of bourbon- though cheap bourbon. It was as if someone poured some Jim Beam into a very sweet malt liquor, which seems to have been the effect they were going for in this beer. As you could imagine, pouring bourbon into a malt liquor would give you a sweet boozy drink that will mess you up but not taste particularly good, and that is exactly what we have here.

4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of malt, caramel, oak, whiskey, light honey. Tastes of whiskey, caramel, light coconut, bit of milk chocolate, booze, light floral notes, malt. Medium body with a dry finish. Not bad, somewhat complex. More like a barrel aged American Strong Ale. Probably better in smaller doses.

Kind of drinkable but itβs not fair to rate this without sloshing it around taped to my hand for an hour. Light oak and caramelized corn malt. Plenty o booze like youβre competing with Gin and Juice. Relatively rank finish, but this ainβt the worst malt liquor Iβve had. Perhaps even the best. Tap at Churchkey.
