Pour un Doppelbock, ce Van Moll manque quelque peu de complexité avec de surcroît une texture très fine. Celui-ci n'en est pas moins agréable avec de beaux arômes de chocolat et dans une moindre mesure de café (le brasseur nous indiquant bien qu'il s'agit d'un Chocolate Doppelbock). L'amertume, mise en avant surprend également, donnant beaucoup de fraîcheur mais bien équilibrée et s'intégrant bien. Le visuel est sur un brun sombre sans mousse. Le nez est simple mais appréciable, avec un chocolat sur les devants allié à un léger café et paré d'une final amertume. L'attaque est sur de arômes peu intenses avec de légères épices et une amertume simple sur le devants. Les arômes de chocolat et café arrivent réellement en seconde bouche, plaisants bien que plats et bien portés par un alcool à 7,5%. L'intensité, honnête est tout de même loin d'être impressionnante. L’arrière-bouche est légèrement plus dense aromatiquement sans de réelles variations néanmoins. Le final, d'une bonne longueur est élégant, toujours porté par l'amertume. Doppelbock atypique, un peu simpliste, mais appréciable.

Bottle from Beerwulf. Pours a black colour with a reddish hue and a medium thick creamy beige head. Nice lacing. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, hints of nuts and brown sugar. Taste is of more chocolate and caramel with some added notes of dry dark fruits and roasted malts. Light to medium bodied, fair amount of fizzy carbonation on the palate, slightly oily mouthfeel and a longish chocolate, roasty and slightly bitter finish. Quite good.

Bottle. Chestnut brown color with medium beige head. Aroma of dark malt, banana, chocolate.,Taste, darkmalt, chcolate, coffee, banana esters, cacao, citus hoppy bitterness in finish. Full bodied. Good one.

Bottle. Malty aroma and taste, caramel, light roasty notes, chocolate, light sourish notes, medium bitter. Medium to full body, malty chocolate bitter finish. Ok.

Tap at the Wildeman, Amsterdam. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a short-lived frothy off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, liqourice, light coffee. The flavour is liqourice bitter, with a dry, roasty, liqourice, charcoal, light boozy hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

On tap at Bierproeflokaal In De Wildeman, pours black with a large tan head. Aroma is very restrained, with German lager yeast, light cocoa, and bready malt. Flavour is somewhat metallic, with restrained cocoa powder, bready malt, and German lager yeast. The cocoa isn't as prominent as I hoped and there is a metallic character permeating this that is not ideal. Still, it's not bad.

33cl bottle from Beerwulf webshop. F: big, tanned, good retention. C: dark, opaque. A: rich dark malts, chocolate, dark dried fruits, dark caramel, dark bread crust, bit nutty, roasted tones. T: medium to full malty base, dark bread, caramel, dark fruits, nutty, chocolate, almost dry on the palate, cacao, bit hoppy finish, soft carbonation, nice, enjoyed.

Uit een flesje in de Boet op Texel. Donkerbruin, lichtbruin schuim. Mooie zachte volle smaak, met een lichte chocolade nasmaak. Prima bokje.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Dark brown with an off-white head. Chocolate caramel aroma with gentle roasted malts. Sweet taste with a sweet finish. Quite thin body for a doppelbock.
