Hemel & Aarde is brewed with the most heavily peated malts we could find. Not for the fainthearted. This powerful brew overwhelms you with smoke, chocolate and coffee. Flavour indication: smoke, chocolate, coffee Translates as Heaven & Earth

500th rating. 330ml bottle from Brewery Creek. Bottled 28/11/14. Tasting with Jamey. Aroma brings out lots of peat, smoky and chocolate notes. Like you smell Islay whiskey. Taste is sweet, dark fruits, peat, resin, figs, smoky. Surprisingly not so full-bodied as lots of other imperial stouts, but very good, though. Sweet, smoky, peat aftertaste.

Tap@Taphouse, Copenhagen - Black pour with tan head. Big roasted smokey malty aroma and taste, burnt earthy notes, charred wooden notes, big burnt malty and smokey finish, quite a beast.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque pitch black with plenty of sediment floating around and a small, short lived, brown head that laces. Aroma of roasted malt, peat, licorice and dark chocolate. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, peat, licorice, caramel, dark fruit, dark chocolate and vanilla with a dry, coffee finish. Full body with a thick, creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Fairly complex and well balanced. Very nice.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Pitch black with a dark beige head. The aroma is a weird combination of smoke, peat and smoked cheese. Some chocolate later on, smoked as well. Taste: the peat an the smoke are mellower with malts mostly dominating - dark treacle, chocolate liqueur, warming alcohol. The finish is pretty hoppy and a bit alcoholic. Rich mouth-feel, yet easy-drinking. As the peat and the smoky cheese fade out a nit, the stout becomes much more tastier and smoother. A nice one, sort off...

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Black body with a thin tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of peat, liquorice and medicine box. Flavour of smoke, tea and whisky. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. I found this difficult to drink and strongly medicinal. I couldn’t finish it.

33cl bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin beige head. Smells of dark cherries, chocolate, roasted malts, smoke, bourbon, cocoa, caramel and dark berries. The taste is well balanced, with notes of roasted malts, peat, cherries, chocolate, some coffee and whiskey. Very nice balance, all the notes are kind of mellow and toned down.
