Hemel & Aarde is brewed with the most heavily peated malts we could find. Not for the fainthearted. This powerful brew overwhelms you with smoke, chocolate and coffee. Flavour indication: smoke, chocolate, coffee Translates as Heaven & Earth

0.33 l bottle from ’Sterk Avondverkoop’, bottled in April 2014 (almost two years old). Pitch black with a thin, soapy, quickly diminishing, tan to brown layer. Heavily peaty, roasty-malty aroma of tar, licorice and ash as well as hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Sweetish, roasty-malty and heavily peaty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, tar, ash and licorice with hints of dark fruits, followed by a long, roasty-bitter, heavily peaty finish. Medium to full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, flat. Interesting and rather intense stuff, great if you like peat. Definitely worth trying!

Thanks Višnja & Goran! Shared with Hrabren and them. My idiot "smartphone" ate my review up. This was a very pungent smokey flavor bomb of a beer if I remember correctly... A placeholder rating till I get to try it again, hopefully soon. :)

0.33 l bottle from Pivoteka Zagreb. Shared with Vi?nja and Goran and Marko. Black with brown tint. Off white head. Leather, blueberries, smoke, roasted malts. Very roasty and thus bitter. Sweet, alcohol, medium to full body. Oily texture.

Bottle with expiry date 28/11/39. Black colour, brown small head. Aroma is a crazy amount of asphalt and burnt rubber, also burnt fire log, dark chocolate. Alcohol is not noticeable. Hard to believe, but as you get used to the peat, pleasant chocolate begins to dominate. Light bitterness. Full body, but not too heavy. First shocking, but then surprisingly good.

5 oz glass from tap @ Arendsnest. Not the first time I’ve had this, but the previous was years ago. Almost blac color, not quite opaque. Dense beige head with good retention and lacing. Aroma’s: leather, smoke. Even more smoke retronasal, and additionally some sweetness and light fruit. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, chocolate, smoke. Alcoholfeel is quite mild for the 10%. Rather full bodied. Finishes with lots of smoke and leather, and some roast. Not very subtle, but I quite like this.

Bottled on 3-4-2014. Silky smooth. Bitterness followed by hit of coffee and some cocoa. Then loads of peat. Earthy heavenly!
