Tap at J’s. Pours a deep brown with a half finger of foam. Hoppy nose with citrus and light piney resin. Chocolate and light caramel. Well-balanced and smooth, not acrid like a lot of black ipa’s tend to be. Smooth with a lingering chocolatey finish with some light bitterness.

Refrigerated 12 oz. squat bottle poured into a glass. Clear medium brown with medium beige head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and pine hops.

Well its OK. I mean, I keep shaking my head at beers like this. Its a porter, with some extra hops. But everything’s gotta have IPA on the label now. It’s a marketing gimmick, and its stupid, but I don’t mean to pick on SN here, they were hardly the first to do it. Anyway, mildly citrus hopped nose and flavors, good bit of of chocolate malt, balanced, drinkable feel.

My bottle reads "Black IPA" and the back label shows it to be 6.9% abv for what it’s worth. Black pour with a tall light mocha-colored head. Aroma of earthy, piney hops. The flavor is lightly bitter with hop bitterness on the front, and roast malt bitterness in the finish. This one is decent but lost between style descriptors.

12 oz bottle from the 4-Way IPA mix pack. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, toasted marshmallow, dark bread, coffee, grapefruit peel. Pours black but looks dark brown in the light; beige head with decent retention and a little lace. Taste starts out sweet and roasty before a piney, grapefruity hop bitterness sets in. Good beer, but pretty standard for style.

12 ounce bottle in the 4 way pack. No idea if this is an alt, I will leave it unverified. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium white head. A light chocolate and ash nose. The flavor is quite nose, toast, chocolate, resinous bitter hops, pine. Big, balanced. Quite good.
