Pours black with a frothy tan head and a mild coffee and dark fruit aroma. Light to medium bodied, thereโs a kick up front, some effervescence, coffee bitterness, hints of chocolate and a very dry finish

Ask at the Queens Head, Stourbridge at 4.8%. Pours jet black with a small head. Aroma is hoppy blackcurrant Locketts. Taste has creamy roast and hoppy blackcurrant Lockets. A little liquroice. Definitely verging on black IPA territory.

Cask at Lych Gate, Wolverhampton. Pours almost black with a sizable tan head and good lacing. The aroma has roasted malts and some hints of spice and smoke. In the mouth it fluctuates between sweetness and bitter and is fairly smooth. Flavour has roasted malts and chocolate with hints of ginger, spice, tobacco and alcoholic strength. The spiciness lasts into the slightly dry finish. This is decent โ if a bit unusual.

Cask at the cardinals hat Lincoln. Black colour with a thick tan head. Aroma roasted malty, chocolate and a touch of smoke. Taste mid roasted bitter with a touch of sweetness. Full smooth body.

Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Pours dark, small pale tan head. Aroma of roast and charred wood. Taste is complex, layered with tobacco, leather, dark chocolate and roasted malts. Interesting, flavoursome cask stout.
