Nocturne is Unity's modern take on the classic Porter. Dark, rich and smooth, mashed with English, German and Belgian malts, including a healthy dose of flaked oats. Keeping this seasonal, they infused this batch with toasted grapevine prunings from Beaulieu Vineyard, adding subtle notes of vanilla and raisins.

Can from Hoptimism webshop. Rich and roasty dark chocolate and coffee aroma with a tart not quite vinous edge to it. Pours wood stain brown. Dark and glossy when in the glass. Thick creamy head. Medium bitter with some initial chocolate and coffee. However a fruity vinous sweetness pushed it ways through from the back of the crowd and then takes front and centre. Actually far sweeter than I was expecting. Thin but creamy. Soft-flat carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Hmmm. I dunno. Interesting mix of bitter and sweet but heading towards too sickly for my personal tastes.

440ml can @ Chez Sophie. pours dark, thin off-white ring atop. Aroma of candied dark fruit, raisins, dark malt, chocolate, distant coffee hints. Taste is smooth, balanced, some nice dark fruit moments, prune-like linger on the finish, gentle chocolate, soft grainy malt. Not sure on the necessity of the grapevine additions, but it's a lovely porter all the same.
