Caribbean Shade was aged for 16 months in rum barrels along with a small amount of bourbon barrels; all quietly waiting to be blended and conditioned. Once out of the barrel, separate additions of toasted coconut and coconut cream were added along with a dusting of cassia bark to enhance the warm, toasted tones of the beer. Finally, an addition of Tahitian vanilla added baking spice and chocolate depth to an already rich base. Flavor highlights of rum cookies, chocolate coconut flakes, and salty ocean air.

Pours black, scent is full, coconut, fairly intense roast. Mildly soapy. Taste is full, sweet, simple and straight forward. Sweet coconut candy, almost soapy. lovely beer, but a bit simple, and I enjoyed the Vanilla and Maple just abit more (as I like thos ingredients more). All of them seem simple and straight forward though, not neccesarily what I like in beers as expensive as these.

Full set of 750ml bottle pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is nice sweet chocolate roast malts toasted coconut vanilla barrel goodness. Taste is more of the nice sweet chocolate toasted coconut vanilla cream, this was my favorite of the set.

Bottle thanks to Brian. Pours black with small tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong coconut, marshmallow, bourbon, roast, wood. Slick body, marshmallow fluff, coconut, dark chocolate, brownie batter, nice sweetness, boozy finish, enjoyed this.

Bottle shared at DACBE New Year's share. Pours a pitch black with a finger of beige foam that lingers. Lovely coconut covered cacao nib and rum aromas with bourbon-y oak notes. Good balance between roast, tropical and sweet on the palate. Some light dark cacao nib, coconut, oak-y vanilla and rum on the finish. Never boozy or warming. Dangerously drinkable.
