India Pale Ale is one great traveller. This strong, hoppy beer was exported from England to India in the 18th century. Over time, exports decreased and, by the middle of the last century, this extraordinary beer style was in decline. In the 1980s, however, IPA was revived by American craft brewers and was reborn stronger, hoppier and is now more popular than ever. Rumours about this magnificent beer also made it to Europe and so the prodigal son made it back home.

Now, a piece of this crazy hoppy-history has reached you. This gold beer celebrates a wild party of Simcoe, Amarillo and Columbus hops, so there is little room for anything else.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 01.10.16, from Rimi, 20150927) The beer poured deep amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had herbalness, pine and malts. Palate was medium bodied and drying wiht medium carbonation. Flavours were pine, herbalness, fruitiness, sweetness, malts and quite intense bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter. A harsh and unclean brew.

33cl bottle. 2015/11/07. The beer poured dark amber with a thick white head. Aroma has pine, resin, dark fruity like notes, very hoppy indeed. Pine and grapefruits with some herbal notes towards finish. Some sweetness as well. Lingering, strong bitter finish, mouthdrying. Very quaffable.

Bottle @ Van Moll Brewpub shared by Erwin Van Moll. Clear orange golden color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, lightly dusty, a touch of cardboard, hmm not great though there are good elements in there as well.

33cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn. Pours clear deep golden with a white head. Rather hoppy aroma with pine, some fruity notes, caramel, malt, grass and herbs. Fairly sweet with flavour dominated by piney hops. Alcohol is quite well integrated and it finishes with a quite pleasant bitterness. Nothing exceptional, but quite drinkable.
