India Pale Ale is one great traveller. This strong, hoppy beer was exported from England to India in the 18th century. Over time, exports decreased and, by the middle of the last century, this extraordinary beer style was in decline. In the 1980s, however, IPA was revived by American craft brewers and was reborn stronger, hoppier and is now more popular than ever. Rumours about this magnificent beer also made it to Europe and so the prodigal son made it back home.

Now, a piece of this crazy hoppy-history has reached you. This gold beer celebrates a wild party of Simcoe, Amarillo and Columbus hops, so there is little room for anything else.

330ml can bought from djoeye. Hazy orange coloured body, pearl white head, spotty lacing. Promising smell of peaches and citrus. Grapefruit and peaches to the taste profile, backed by mild malty sweetness. A piney twist to a mid-dry fruity ending. Refreshing thirst quencher. (Tromsø, 05.06.2023).

On tap at the Clayhills Gastropub, Tallinn, as General Nikolai Clayhills IPA. The waitress thought it was brewed by Viru, but probably did not have a clue. Copper to reddish amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of piney and citrussy American hops. Flavour of a classical American IPA, with a distinct hop bitterness throughout.

Bottle from Bierothek, Erfurt. Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and moderate hoppy - citrus. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. There must be a lot of batch variation given the low scores many are giving. My bottle was very good. 040817

opalescent golden to orange colour, moderate sized off-white head; aroma of pine resin, boiled vegetables, some overripe mango and grapefruit, as well as disturbing rotten notes in the background; taste is the same with intensive and a bit artificial-like bitterness; not a masterpiece, but drinkable
