The newer ‘massieve ale’ counterpart of 7PK, an organic oatmeal quadrupel lagered on oak chips; thanks to tderoeck. Thick, yet quickly opening and unstable, pale yellowish beige, fizzing head on a clear, deep mahogany brown beer with reddish-purple hue. Aroma of moist raisin bread, caramel, ripe pear, fig, port, banana, blue plums, rum, coriander, liquorice, cloves and only very slight oaky vanilla. Sweet onset, raisiny, plummy and grapey, but mostly pear-like, fizzy carbonation, slick but full body. Caramelly malt body with a soft nutty edge, under lingering honeyish-brown sugary sweetness; very light toasty bitterish touch in the end mingling with soapy coriander and a liquorice-like phenolic spiciness. Earthy, bready yeast note and rum-like warming alcohol linger alongside the caramelly sweet main character of this beer, while again the influence of the oak remains very much at the background. Too bad for the unstable head and perhaps lacking a bit depth and complexity certainly for a 'wood-aged' beer of sorts, but otherwise a perfectly decent quadrupel-ish Belgian strong brown ale.
