One of those Belgian ‘streekbieren’ commissioned by a local guild, ‘t Straat, dedicated to oldtimer cars and located in Wijnegem. Brewed to an original recipe by Pirlot, even if this is nowhere mentioned on the label – apparently ‘t Straat wants us to believe that they brewed this themselves, considering the references they make to a former Wijnegem brewery (Ardea), although they admit that they were unable to figure out which beers this brewery made at the time. Anyway, bottle from Wijnegemse Drankenhal, with old-fashioned label in line with these guys’ core interest, I reckon. Thick and frothy, egg-white, densely lacing, stable head on a lightly hazy warm orange-tinged golden beer. Aroma of freshly cut red apples, banana, bubblegum, iron shavings, raw pineapple, soggy white bread, honey, plaster, bread yeast. Sweet onset, notes of pear, pineapple and the obvious banana ester, lively carbonation, slick cereally malt body with a thin metallic edge – as predicted by the iron aspect in the nose – ending mildly hop bitter, with a softly spicy, leafy hoppiness lingering on top of clearly more pronounced malt and residual sugary sweetness, with a yeast bitter accent to it as well. Yet another Belgian blonde with strictly local relevance only, one of those countless beers where the story is far more elaborate and interesting than the beer itself; apart from that, the iron aspect in particular bothered me a bit here.

Clear orange beer, big creamy off-white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: fruity, sweet, sugary, some banana, esters. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweetish start, bit fruity, sugary, some orange peel. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, bit sweet, metallic, orange peel, unpleasant bitterness, pretty dry, more metallic.
