A clear golden yellow beer with a big white head. Aroma of dry grainy malt and straw. Taste of dry grainy malt, straw, mild floral hops, easy to drink.

Bottle at home. Hazy yellow color, medium to full sized white head. Smell and taste malts, softly sweetish grainy with a distant citrus note to my surprise. Quite nice. Soft smooth mouthfeel and carbonation. Useful beer.

Donkergeel bier met mooie schuimkraag. Smaak is licht bitterzoet met iets van graan, wat groenten en gras. Goed bier maar zou van mij iets bitterder mogen zijn.

33cl bottle from ABS Drinks near Herent. F: medium, white, good retention. C: deep gold, shiny hazy. A: malty, bready, floral, mineral and fruity touch. T: medium malty base, bready, bit mineral, light fruity touch, spicy, caramel, decent bitterness, dry on the palate, German style lager for me, bit too fruity yet still ok, enjoyed.

Intended as a German style Pilsener and introduced in 2019, this to my knowledge is Nest's first attempt at lager; since these guys are usually good at traditional beer styles, I have a certain expectation... Thick and frothy, audibly crackling, pillowy, eggshell-white head sustained by lively sparkling through a warm, almost orangey-hued 'old gold' beer, clearly darker than even a traditional German Pilsener, clear but with a visible suspension of translucent yeast bits everywhere, turning equally misty peach blonde with sediment - not actually looking like the intended style usually does, to be frank. Aroma of white bread crust, dried camomile, baker's yeast, raw cereals, wormwood leaves, minerals, freshly cut grass, hints of soap, old dry cookies, dry earth, flour, egg yolk, apple peel, dried apricots. Crisp onset, indeed quite 'neutral' in terms of fruitiness but - thanks to that yeast suspension - still faint hints of dried apricot, baked banana and unripe peach, sweetish with a slight sourish edge accentuated by lively, very minerally carbonation; supple, rounded body, nice bready middle with a sharper grainy edge but nothing 'unnatural'. The breadiness is significantly augmented by the yeast effect, but the hops also add a camomile- and clover-like floweriness, along with something vaguely soapy (Styrian Golding, perhaps?) and at the same time, they do their work in balancing out the malt sweetness with a relatively long, leafy bitterness that lends body to the finish, while these bready and minerally effects linger. Unless Kellerbier or Zwickelbier is considered, German pale lagers are generally unfiltered these days and the fact that this interpretation still contains yeast, effectuating a notably - but pleasantly - bready effect is something I would not immediately associate with them. I would not, however, see this as a problem: if this is indeed a lager, and it sure has all the features of an unfiltered pale lager, then it is certainly a very good one to Belgian standards - Belgium has never excelled at them, but every now and then in 20th-century classic Belgian beer culture, a decent one has emerged from the kettles of some or other family brewery. This one is more akin to one of those largely forgotten unfiltered Belgian pale lagers of days long gone, than to the typical German Pilsener in its present-day commercial form - but I enjoyed it, and to me Het Nest proves that they can make a very decent pale lager that sits well outside the industrial, lifeless, bland standard pale lager template. Better than expected, really.

Golden colour with light haze and lasting head. Initially quite sweet perhaps some ripe honeydew melon in the background. Otherwise just a plain lager.

28 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, 77ships & tderoeck! Clear golden, small, slowly thinning, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of yeast, wort, old apple & pear, breadcrust, melon, mellow pineapple. Taste is light to medium malty sweet, quite grainy & wort-like, yeasty & bready touches as such, a bit fruity & grassy, equally dryish, malty & grainy in the finish with a touch of grassy hops. Light to medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Not really going anywhere for me.
