Dubbed a ‘hoppy table beer’, this interesting little brew from Virginia turned out more like a sour ale than anything else… Thanks Mike for sharing at Bar Beenhouwer! No head at all, hazy ‘dirty’ orangey peach blonde robe. Aroma of green gooseberries, kefir, raspberry vinegar, orange zest, sourdough, rhubarb, redcurrant, green plums, wild apples. Fruity, estery onset, some apricot sweetishness but mostly gooseberry-, redcurrant- and rhubarb-like tartness, softly carbonated, supple body feeling fuller than expected at this ABV; cereally, very lightly bread-crusty maltiness underneath drying sourness of a very fruity, somewhat astringent, colourful nature, a bit ‘dusty’ in the end with some lingering peachy sweetishness and an earthy hop bitter note as well. Sour ale at ‘session’ level, if any hoppiness was ever present, it has by now been absorbed in the sourness – but how this brewery came to call it a ‘table beer’ is something of an understatement and does not reveal anything about what the taster can expect, apart from low ABV… Feels almost like the non-spontaneous equivalent of meerts. Interesting!

Clear orange beer, big fuzzy aery off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: funky, fruity, apples, brett notes, very enjoyable. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, fruity, bit yeasty, funky, nice and interesting, very dry. Aftertaste: dry, some citrus, fruity touch, soft bitterness, hoppy, nice!
