Can from the April 2023 Small Batch Society.
Earlier Rating: 1/22/2019 Total Score: 3.9
This beer is a cloudy purplish-maroon color with a medium thick pinkish-white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of tart berries, vanilla and malt. Medium body with flavors of mildly tart blackberry, vanilla, wheat and biscuit malt. The finish is berry jam and vanilla. Pretty good overall.

So, how many operation plowshares blackberries does UA make? About 20? Just asking. I hope this is the right place to put this midwest fruit tart. At the pop there is a decent fruit aroma, mild and pleasant nose. Initially the taste lacks the alky hit I was looking for. Yet, its quite tart and nicely sour, really liking this up front. Taste is rather pleasant and fruity but not dull, like so many other common fruit beers; its more like the real thing, no artificial BS going on here. Reminds me of Lindemans Framboise in a wierd kindah way. Fun fruity & fresh, pretty decent tart beer. Actually does come across more like a real fruited lambic of the old country. Yes, you'd never know there is any alky over 3% in here, quite scary. You could down a few cans of these and, WOW! Nicely done. Overall beer experience is much better than expected.

Smells like dust in a good way. Then loads of blackberry. Lovely taste of big blackberry and then vanilla. Nice tartness. Big sour tongue burn then nice rounded vanilla finish. Good’un! Cheers Will!

Can. Pours deep red purple. Blackberry, jelly, slight tartness, slight bitter earthiness, blackberry finish. Medium body. Decent.

Can from explosivedog: pours bright purple with a large punk head. Aroma is blackberry and vanilla. Taste is loads of blackberry, but the vanilla gives this a veritable pastry hint, which does more than just add vanilla flavoring in my opinion. Slightly boozy if you chug too fast. Nice Medium body. Quite nice.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 10/9/2019. Pours hazy very dark ruby red/pink/purple color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/sour/tart/tangy blackberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, peach, plum, pear, raisin, apricot, red/green apple, currant, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; lighter notes of vanilla, peppercorn, musty/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of blackberries, fruity/acidic yeast, and pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge juicy/sour/tart/tangy blackberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, peach, plum, pear, raisin, apricot, red/green apple, currant, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; lighter notes of vanilla, peppercorn, musty/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and yeast/tannic spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy blackberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, peach, plum, pear, raisin, apricot, red/green apple, currant, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, vanilla, peppercorn, musty/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of blackberries, fruity/acidic yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a fantastic malt/tart/sourness and tangy fruit balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering sour/tart/tangy and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.9%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited kettle sour. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of blackberries, fruity/acidic yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish. Nicely soft and not overly lactic/tannic. Fantastic balance of super juicy/jammy berries and lacto complexity; with a nice sized wheat/malt backbone against acidity. Mild residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy/tannic dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected. Love the whole Midwest fruit tart series.

12 oz can from Tavour, 11/9/19. Purple-reddish, beige head. Sweet, fruity aroma. Blackberry more prominent then the vanilla for me. Somehow it is reminiscent of a Dr. Brown's Black Cherry. Wasn't expecting that from a beer. A little too sweet, but pretty tasty. Unique. 8/4/7/4/15

4 oz. draft at Extreme Beer Fest, 3 Feb, 2018. My first impression is that this would be a novelty. I can admit I was wrong. The aroma is like blackberry jam. All blackberry. This is a “pastry” sour if that makes any sense. Lasting tart blackberry with notes of vanilla, and fried dough. The tartness cuts through the sweet flavors and has a slight creamy texture. I wonder what this is like canned. Really interesting! And yeah, I could drink a good amount of this.
