Inspired by our brewers' love of the assertive, bright flavors of Thai ingredients, this intensely flavored brew incorporates the vibrant quality of several Thai-inspired ingredients into our classic imperial stout. Powerful notes of citrus, botanicals, and tropical fruit balance the stout's rich chocolate, caramel, and coffee character. The result is an amazingly flavorful and complex beer that pays tribute to the flavors of Thailand.

Thai-themed version of AleSmith's legendary Speedway Stout, 75 cl bottle shared with Craftmember, Goedele and Hinke. Creamy, pale yellowish beige, papery-lacing but quickly thinning and opening head over a black beer with hazy mahogany edges. Very spicy and intriguing aroma: dry ginger, bitter cocoa, camphor, nutmeg, lime peel, soy sauce, dried out lemongrass, almond, pecan nut but not so much coconut, whisky, black chocolate, coffee cream, Thai basil, green matcha tea, banana peel, mocha ice cream, vanilla beans. Sweet onset, candied dates and a touch of raisin but nothing cloying, light sourish edge from the lime as well as a light soy sauce-like umami effect, soft carb, full and oily body. Very thick pecan-nutty and black-chocolatey malt base drenched in aromatic spiciness, quite perfumey and with the lime and lemongrass components adding some refreshment; complex spicy finish with a lot of heating, whisky-like alcohol while black chocolate and nuttiness linger, coconut meanwhile remaining a bit understated; ginger and bitter cocoa prevail, with the Thai basil adding a subtle sweetishness in the end. A bit of a challenge, this one, intense with a lot of bold flavours bravely fighting each other for dominance; took a while to get used to, but this combo is in any case highly fascinating and interesting. Some of the flavours, most notably the coconut and even the coffee, remain relatively weak whereas others attract full attention; I was left wondering if this mishmash of flavours is really flattering to the familiar basic beer, but I had no problems enjoying the entire glass. One to revisit, if it weren't so expensive...

750ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Spicy, Tom Kha Gai-like aroma, notes of lemongrass, ginger, lime, a touch of coconut, widely disguised, dark malty background. Taste is sweet-ish, dark malty and citrusy spicy, notes of lemongrass, lime, some mocha, coconut overtones. Creamy texture, smooth, soft and silky palate, fine carbonation. Clean, well balanced, harmonious, not overpiced, quite refreshing due to the citrusy flavours, well hidden alcohol. Very good!
