Draft @ BxlBeerFest 2019 - day 2.

Rye saison from this young Walloon microbrewery, with sober but informative label. Thick and regularly shaped, egg-white, moussy, membranous-lacing head, lightly hazy peach blonde robe with 'old gold' hue and some strings of sparkling. Aroma of ripe apricots, plum jam even, sweetbread, fig compote, old bread crust, ripe pear, honey, cooked sweet potatoes, cloves, raw parsnip. Sweetish onset (though less sweet than expected based on the nose), estery peach, pear and light banana impressions, fizzy and bit minerally carbonation, slick and rounded, bready and slightly caramelly malt sweetish base with a dim spicy note from the rye, but very subtly so. Floral, bit spicy hop bitterness in the finish, a tad wormwoody and dried citrus peel-like, lingering along with residual and estery sweetness. I see earlier ratings here talking about rather harsh hop bitterness but that does not apply to my bottle, perhaps the hop dosage has been tuned down a bit meanwhile? In fact, I find this rather sweet for a saison, could use more hop bitterness really… Other than that, a fine Belgian style blonde without any noticeable flaws.
