The Sixpoint Spice of Life series is a celebration of one of the most popular but obscure plants on the planet - the hop. In this series, we release a new iteration of the same recipe every month- a total of 12 iterations per year. The recipe is for a straightforward American style IPA- brewed with only two different malts, a single hop varietal, and is fermented dry to accentuate hop flavor and aroma. We brew the exact same recipe every time with one interesting catch- each time we switch the hop strain. This method of adjusting one variable is called a "controlled experiment." But more important, it allows you to appreciate exactly how a different strain of hops can influence the flavor and aroma of beer!

On tap pours cloudy orange, cannot see through it. Aroma is sweet malt with super grassy hops. Really old style hoppiness (circa 2006). Flavor is lesss sweet, some citrus and some light grass. Has a thicker mouthfeel. This hoppy beer seems dated, its not dry, its not sweet hops, its not tropical hops, its all just grass hops. Is Simcoe that boring, my memory fails me.

Sample at the DBLDP on 09/01/2013. The beer is a clear orange-gold color with a medium foamy white head that dissipates steadily to some wispy patches. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of hops, tropical fruit and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of citrusy hops, pineapple and toasted malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a floral hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Copper orange. Medium bodied. Some light caramel and toasted malt lies beneath the refreshing citrus, light pine, and a bit zesty herbs of the hops. Finish has anice load of bitterness and floral tones. A bit sweet on the back end, too. Good stuff.
