The first of our small batches brewed on the old Wild Horse brewing system, this black beer is a twist on the classic Belgian Wit. It is brewed with three kinds of wheat and black and crystal malts. Roast and clove notes are its major flavors; it finishes dry.

Pint pour @ Hop Devil Grill. The color looks black but in direct light its actually a clear ruby-brown. The head is very large and leaves a sticky-icky, can’t get off the walls, lacing. Aroma is lightly hoppy with some prune-y bark and some floral notes. Taste is spiky hop and a very-very watered down coffee. Its nice but I was really looking for a different type of beer.

Tap at Hop Devil - hazy ruby, brownish beer - very wit-like aroma, with orange peel, coriander, lemon zest - behind this there are some porter-like, cocoa notes - on interesting combination that really works - the flavor is much less so - it tastes a lot like a porter with slight herbal and floral character - it’s actually a nice combination, just not as interesting as the aroma suggests - the bitterness is more herbal than hoppy, which reminds you that you aren’t drinking a porter - pretty nice, actually, and just different enough to be memorable.
