New England’s Original IPA | As enjoyable today as it was in ‘93, IPA is a regional favorite and a craft beer classic. Styled after an English IPA but brewed with distinctly American hops, it’s citrusy, refreshing, and perfectly balanced– as perfect on a Cape Cod beach as it is in a VT ski lodge or Boston dive bar.

Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this yet. On tap at the brewery. Bright golden. 2 finger head. Nice clarity. Mild pine bitterness on the nose. Taste is very low malt backbone. Lots of pine and some sweetness at the finish. Bitterness lingers.

Draught at the Valley Forge Conference Center, PA. Not the most assertive IPA. Amber with a cream head; slightly floral, hoppy aroma; rather sweet in the mouth with some caramel malts, and some gentle hops; and a rather malty finish.

At a tasting, thanks DSG, smallish head, quite clear and a touch deep golden colour, aroma of orange marmalade, tobbaco and flowers, a bready aroma with some pine and herbs, medium bitterness. Nice but quite ordinary.

12 ounce can. Rich honey gold color topped by a huge rocky white head. Pleasant spicy hop aroma. Toasted malt comes through as well. More toasted malt in flavor. Citrus hops are noticeable, but somewhat subdued. This is a nice session IPA, but not quite up there with the West Coast heavyweights.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear light orange with a thin ring of white head. Aroma is mostly citrus with a little pine. Taste is light bitter. Citrus and pine. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. I would gladly drink it again.

Smells slightly of hops. There’s a sharp bitter taste and not much else. Pale golden colour. Christ this gets worse and worse as it goes down. Astringent as hell. On tap at the Salt Hill Pub in Newport, NH.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best by 4/15/2012. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a nice 2 finger dense off white head with great retention that reduces to a cap that lingers. Some spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of pine, herbal, floral, citrus, grass, caramel, and a bit of honey sweetness. Decent aromas that are on the weak side. Taste of big pine, citrus, herbal, floral, caramel, biscuit, grass, and graininess. Fair amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of biscuit, pine, herbal, citrus, and grass on the finish for a bit. Some good malt and flavor balance with bitterness. Medium carbontion and body; with a crisp and clean mouthfeel. Some prickly carbonation present as well, but it still drinks very smoothly. No alcohol presence in the taste or finish. Overall this is a solid and pretty enjoyable IPA.
