New England’s Original IPA | As enjoyable today as it was in ‘93, IPA is a regional favorite and a craft beer classic. Styled after an English IPA but brewed with distinctly American hops, it’s citrusy, refreshing, and perfectly balanced– as perfect on a Cape Cod beach as it is in a VT ski lodge or Boston dive bar.

Enjoyed from bottle while at the Viaduct Theatre in Chicago, IL while seeing the band Weekend Nachos. I can’t comment on the aroma or appearance, but the taste was pretty good, nice light citrusy hops, smooth, easy drinker, slight bitterness, tasty.

Re-rate 9/3/12: Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks Rocky for this bottle! Clear deep golden with a very small head. Nice fresh floral and citric hops aroma. Rather dry flavor with light malt sweetness and nice bitter grapefruity and floral hops. Medium-bodied. 8/2/7/3/14=3.4
Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks David Cohen. Clear golden. Hoppy aroma with some pine, citrus and light malty notes. Bitter hoppy flavor with pine, some citrus and light sweetness in the back. Medium-bodied. Nice. 7/3/7/3/14=3.4

I cant believe I havent rated this one yet, I swear there are about 100 beers that Ive been having for a decade that I forget to rate. Anyways, what can I say about Harpoon IPA that hasnt been said, but if this and say Sierra Nevada or Sam Adams are the only "craft" beers on tap somewhere, Im grabbing this.

Imported from my RateBeer account as Harpoon IPA (by Harpoon Brewery):
Aroma: 6/10, Appearance: 4/5, Taste: 7/10, Palate: 3/5, Overall: 14/20, MyTotalScore: 3.4/5
30/09/2011 1Pt 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ Thomas' place (2011-473) Thanks to Thomas and Annelies for the bottle!
Clear orange beer, big creamy yellowish head, pretty stable, nice lacing. Aroma: very fruity, exotic fruits, some plastic, bit chemical, pineapple. MF: ok carbon, light to medium body. Taste: little fruity, very bitter hops taking over, more fruitiness, touch of sweet malts. Aftertaste: pretty bitter and dry finish.
3/10/2011 unfiltered and a week before botteling from the tank @ Harpoon Brewery
Difference in points with the bottled verion: aroma 8, palate: 4. Little to no head, cloudy orange. Aroma: passion fruits, pineapple, yoghurt, bit grassy. MF: little to no carbon, full body. Taste: fruity, peaches, some yeast, bitter hops. Aftertaste: citrus, peaches, dry ending. Because it was not completely fermented yet, there was some more sugar left, resulting in a more balanced beer, to my liking.

Granted, the only reason I drank this beer was because the restaurant bar was out of Bell’s Two Hearted. I’ve never willingly drank Harpoon IPA, only when its the best available choice, a situation that occurs with alarming regularity around Charleston. And the bubbly, bland, drastically under-hopped pint before me only goes to remind me why I avoid this IPA. No, this pint isn’t the worst bottle ever, and I’ve become much too jaded to be surprised by this beer’s popularity. But come on, Harpoon. This IPA barely qualifies as a Pale Ale.

Bouteille. Dorée avec fin brume, mousse blanche. Note de citron et houblon avec un léger palais de malt. L’amertume est légère avec qcq notes de pamplemousse. Pas mauvaise mais un peu en retrait par rapport de nombreuses autres.

Very pleasant juicy hops, grapefruit dominates. A sweet malt base and a mild malty finish. Nice.
