Donkerbruin bier met schuim. Smaak is bitter met een licht fruitig zuurtje en redelijk aanwezige rooksmaak en houttonen. Verder is er iets van druiven te bespeuren. Ik vind de rooksmaak iets te overheersend.

330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with average to huge, frothy, moderately to mostly lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Peaty, smoky and chocolately, dark malty aroma, herbal-spicy notes of peat, a touch of oak and leather, shoe polish, whiffs of caramel, toffee, dark berries. Taste is sweet-ish, chocolately and caramel malty, peaty, minimally tart-ish, tangy, notes of caramel, milk chocolate, peat, tannic hints of oak, some leather, juniper berry, some pine; minimally warming, alcoholic finish. Oily-watery texture, smooth and soft, almost a bit astringent palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Rich and manifold, diversified peat flavours (earthy, herbal, mildly smoky), surprisingly light thereby - very, very nice.

Bottle, Gasthouse Gecco Nordhorn. Almost black. Peataroma. Caramel. Sweet flavor with caramel, raisin and persistant peat. Red fruit. Out of balance, but still very nice.

Draught @ Bar Oorlam, Hamburg. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Clear aroma of barral and peat, with notes of yeast and touches of malt. Bitter flavour of hops and roast, with sour notes of overpeated brew and smoke and mold touches of malt and yeast. Smokyband dry aftertaste with estery touches. Well, not bad igbyoy are a smoky Joseph with an afdiction to acid, but quite a bit of a mouthful otherwise.

0.33 l bottle from 'Brewcomer', best before May 2022, cellared for about a year. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite smoky-medicinal, salty, slightly roasty and minimally fruity aroma of dark chocolate, peat, seaweed, dark fruits and a touch of wood. Gently sweet, malty, moderately roasty, quite smoky-medicinal and a bit fruity taste of dark chocolate, peat, caramel, seaweed, dark fruits and a touch of red berries, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, quite smoky-medicinal, salty and a bit woody finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant beer, maybe a touch too woody but nicely peaty. The base beer could be a bit less sweet as well.

0,33 l bottle from Heimathaven, Oldenburg. Black in the glass with small reddish edges. Nearly three finger foamy beige head. Smokey smell with dark berryfruity background, some petrol. Taste starts with smokey malt and a surprising amount of citrus, less whisky. Higher carbonated than expected. Increasing whisky and burnt peat in the second part and meanwhile disturbing citrus. Sorry, can not really convince.

Buddel: Almost black, presumably hazy, small persistent off-white foamy layer, almost solid bitter-sweet aroma of dried fruits, caramel and toasted malt, delicate but distinctive traces of ALK, wanilla and vood in the background; nearly solid bitter-sweet flavour, surely full bodied; lingering bitter-sweet leathery and fruity and toasty finish with a slight alcohol-burn in the aftertaste. Yes, a well made winter-warmer...
