Spitfire Amber Ale combines the pick of Kentish hops to layer bitter orange marmalade flavour on top of sweet biscuits and caramel malts for a peppery dry finish. Bottle, 0.5l. Dark copper pour with one finger soapy white head. Long lasting, leaving some good lacing. Nose pretty much typical for the style except this one has more pronounced herbal character. Some good woody notes in there too. Thin to medium body with slightly above average carbonation. Regular texture. Taste is bitter, a bit harsh, slightly charred. Aroma is heavily malty, lots of caramel notes. A bit charred, roasty. Herbal. Woody, grainy. Some subtle peppery notes. A bit of honey in the aftertaste. Finishes bitter and dry with a bit of unpleasant metallic acidity. Overall, good for the style but not something I’d pick up regularly. Decent if you like the style.

Clear amber, moderate off-white head. Caramel, biscuit and floral hops on nose. Light to medium body. Bittersweet taste. Decent malts. The hops seem to be not fresh anymore. Still a nice bitter.

500ml bottle. Clear dark amber colour with a one finger off-white head. Aroma is very malty, grassy hops, caramel, fruit, slight spice and kind of vegetabley/nutty notes. Taste is malty, hops, fruit, toffee. Bitter finish. Just a typical old British bitter, the sort of thing you see elderly men drinking in pubs... yeah not my thing I’m afraid, hard to enjoy this.
