Simi Hendrix born Simian J. Monkenstein lived hard and drank well, one night in Belgium after a show during a wildberry induced purple haze Simian was mixing wildflower honey, tart Balton cherry juice and dry-hopped Styrian Goldings. The result? A Funky Belgian–inspired hopped cherry melomel. This revolutionary concoction was the inspiration for the mega hit ‘Funky Monky‘ sadly, Simi has disappeared into the French countryside but in his absence he has left us with an imperial libation to be treasured and savored. Don’t miss this its too funking good to pass up.

20.03.2013, 0,5l bottle sampled @ BBGTC tasting:
Rar grønsaksprega lukt, rødbet, jord, syregras, friske bær. Sødmerik lett konsentrert frisk smak med preg av syrlige raude bær, sukker, "grønsaker", jord, mandelessens. Grei.

0.5l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. Lovely blood-orange/cherry red color in the glass with a small bubbly quickly side sticking top. Looks really nice, and the aroma? Oh, my that's a different aroma! It's as original as original gets. Something slightly woody and tart, blood orange, citrus, almond cake and brett? What is this? It has a little carbonation, soft prickling but present. The taste is both light tart, sweet and red. Yeah it tastes red in a way. Wood, honey, red grapes, lots of both sweet and tart cherries, slightly astringent, well perhaps not astringent but slightly mouthdrying in the finish. A creation I'm really struggling to understand, but I think I'm kinda liking it. 20.03.2013

Tap at Dexters. Deep purple red. Big berry aroma. Mellow and quite drinkable, some honey tones. Not much to compare it to, sort of like a quality mad dog 20/20.

Pours clear bright prune juice with a modest degree of legginess along the edges of the glass. The aroma is big sweet cherry notes mixing with honey chemical booze. The taste has some rich nectar like cherry juice sweetened by honey and then getting tart by deep carpet staining currant juice. The fruity tartness ramps up into the finish. Nice rich flavor with tart freshness.

Bottle. Pours a deep ruby red with no head whatsoever. Aroma has a really nice cherry note with a nice sweet honey note and just a hint of hoppiness. Flavor has a nice slightly tart cherry note that combined really nicely with the dry honey notes.

Bottle thanks to SS. Pours with a lightly hazed purple to red (sort of a light burgundy red) hued body with a small, frothy white head that fades. Very light lace, some legs. Aromas of hops, grassy, spicy, mild phenols and esters, earthy, juicy, tannin. Cherry, mild floral. Flavors are very juicy, lightly spicy, tannin and good acidity. Balanced, mild alcohol. Medium sweet, but balancing tannin and acidity. Tart finish. Medium to light bitterness. Light fusel. Prickly carbonation, tannic and tart finish with a medium-low body and decently warming.

Bottle in Detroit. Dark red violet appearance with a small, carbonated white head. Rich, sweet honey, dark black cherry, slightly floral aroma. Quite rich, sweet, tangy honey, somewhat spicy, thick, black cherry flavor with a syrupy mouth feel. Slight cough syrup flavor but tasty nonetheless.
