On tap @ Kalfaret Brygghus, Bergen. Pours light amber, which is a bit strange for a brown ale. Not a lot of aroma here, but some notes of nuts get through. Flavour gets me wondering what’s really going on here, with a strange bitterness dominating the picture. It’s not that it’s really bad, it’s just that it’s more fitting for a British bitter.

On tap at Kalfaret. Has a clear redbrown colour with a small white head. Not very aromatic but i sense some sweet malts and caramel. The flavours reminds me of typical british ales with a sweet and malty flavour with leather caramel standing out. Its all rounding off with a balanced pleasant bitterness. Slick but a bit thin mouthfeel. This beer is more alike a british bitter than a brown ale in my opinion.

Tap @ Biskopen, Bergen. Pours a clear orange body with a thin white head. Nose is low with notes of dark malts and some faint fruit. The body is medium+ and has quite low carbonation. Taste is actually quite OK. Brown sugar, caramel, some honey. Also slightly fruity and nice round flavors. I could also scene a really faint whiskey-like hint somewhere in the background. Unfortunately there was a somewhat pungent finish on this, otherwise I quite liked this brown ale.
Re-rated:
Sampled @ Kalfaret Brygghus. This is a really light "brown ale". Not brown at all actually, but more dark golden with a small off-white head that's lacing down the small sample-glass. The aroma is light sweet. Almost kinda sticky-sweet in a not-extreme sweet way. That makes absolutely no sence.. Not any caramel in this one. Tastes a bit like flower water. Near metallic flower water. Needless to say, I'm not utterly impressed. 16.02.2012 (3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 6)

On tap at Oslo Beer and Food Festival. It’s a hazy, golden beer with a dense, small, off-white head. Caramel and some DMS on the nose, slightly fruity. The fflavor is malty and fruity, with caramel and some DMS. Medium body, pleasant carbonation but with a papery feeling on the palate. Fruity finish with DMS. A boring and not very well crafted beer, but drinkable. 100820

Thin white head disappears quckly. Brown body with some carbonation. Sweetish peachy hop aroma with notes of honey. Taste is bitterish caramel and roasted almonds with peachy hop notes. Thin watery wooden bitter aftertaste. Definitely an English bitter, but the mouthfeel is a bit thin for me. Not bad. (0.5l draft. Rated in February 2007 at the brewpub.)
