This German Sour Ale becomes an American quencher with the addition of Watermelon puree from California. The tart, salty, sourness coming from a process called kettle-souring with lactobacillius, giving the beer a dry crisp quality is a perfect sunshine complement to the watermelon puree added at the end of the process.

Super hazy light copper and peach coloured body with a ridiculously large, seven to eight centimetre tall tan, very soapy head. Aroma of light soap, salt, grain, touches of watermelon candy and some mellow sugars with a nice amount of dryness and real watermelon scents. Light-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strong watermelon flavours at first with a candy-like sweetness that show quite a bit of extra grains of salt in this mix along with some mellow yet noticeable malt flavours, a touch of dry hay and grain and a little fruity sweetness and extra carbonation from the fermentation here. Aftertaste is definitely fruit-forward, salty and dry with an emphasis on the carbonation and fermentation processes. Overall, a nice and refreshing beer with perhaps a bit TOO much bubbles, but the flavour profile is just right for the style, showing enough character, but not too much where it weighs down the beer. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Fairfax, Virginia on 10-September-2017 for US$2,79 sampled at home in Washington on 10-October-2017, exactly a month after purchasing it.

Can: Natural watermelon aroma, flesh and rind, lemon, funk. Hazy amber, medium head, little retention. Watermelon, lemon. Bready malt finish. Light body, easy carbonation. Good balance, wheaty. Outstanding!

Multiple cans. Poured a hazy yellow color, fizzy slightly off-white head. Aroma was lots of watermelon, melon, light salt seabreeze kiss. Light lemon, touch of citrus, melon really is pleasant in this - doesn’t taste artificial like some of the other watermelon beers out there.

Draft sample at Dominion Wine & Beer, thanks Tyler! Hazy yellow with off-white head. Aromas of watermelon, light salt. Tastes of watermelon, subtle salt, watermelon hard candies like Jolly Ranchers and Lifesavers. Tastes more like an alcopop than a gose.
