Can from Whole Foods Wine and Spirits in Boulder, 11/23/15. As Green Monstah Organic Imperial Red Ale (10% ABV, 40 IBU). It pours a clear orange color with a thin off white head and mild lacing. The aroma is full of dark fruit (raisin, date, etc.) and toffee. Not much hop on the aroma at all. In the flavor the hops come in a bit too balance put the heavy dark fruit and toffee malt flavors. Still more of a malt forward offering, but there's a good bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with a bit of stickiness. Fairly soft carbonation. Hides the 10% really well. This is a really interesting beer. I can't think of any other American beers that have a flavor profile quite like this one. It sort of reminds me of a hoppy Dubbel or something. Hard to totally describe, but I'm glad to have tried it.

Tap at Freshcraft - okay, so this is the third strike from this brewer for me - I wanted to give them a fair shake because they are local and all organic, but their beer is just bad - this one, for example, is abrasive in about as many ways as a beer can be - the hops are poorly balanced and very astringent and the alcohol makes it even more difficult to palate - the malt base tries really hard to cover this up, but just adds some sticky sweetness to the mess - a lot of fusel alcohol flavor and even some odd vegetal notes in the back - a total effing mess - sorry, asher, but I shan’t be trying any more of your beer.
